Ready to dive in? Let’s make it happen!
1. Prepping
“Spend time on studying the product and brand before you begin filming. Having in mind the direction you’ll go with materials you might need.”- Eva
Mood board
Before anything else, dive deep into the brand you’re collaborating with!
Understand their core values, aesthetic, and overall vibe. While it’s essential to let your unique style shine, blending it seamlessly with the brand’s DNA is the key to creating standout content.
Next up? Nail the color palette! Eva’s pro tip: Hit up Pinterest for inspo—find images that match the brand’s colors and aesthetic. Use this as your guide to create the perfect filming environment. Let the magic begin!
Must-Have Tools
The Basics
- Tripod: Eva suggests keeping two—one for your phone and one for lighting.
- Camera: Your phone is more than enough to capture quality content.
- Lighting: LED clip-on lights are perfect. Want to add a pop of color? Place colored paper over the light for a creative touch.
Step It Up with Eva’s Pro Tips
- Reflector: Look for one with silver on one side and gold on the other for versatile lighting effects.
- Backdrops: Double-sided options give you more color flexibility and creative freedom.
- Decor Elements: Keep things simple and clean. Follow your mood board for cohesive styling, and incorporate shadows (from plants, for example) to add depth.
- Macro/Fisheye Lens: Perfect for close-ups that highlight product details.
- Stabilizer: Ensures smooth, professional-quality footage.
- Fishing Line: Great for creative shots—think subtle floating effects.
- Movement Magic: Use small turntables for slow spinning shots or a towel to gently slide products in or out of the frame for added motion.
✨ With these tools and tricks, you’re ready to create scroll-stopping content that stands out!
Prep Set
With your mood board and materials in hand, it’s time to set up your shoot. Eva suggests starting with the best natural light you can find.
Need an extra glow? Bring in your LED light for a boost. Keep in mind that your set is meant to be dynamic as filming is all about trial and error. Experiment with different lighting angles, backgrounds, and props as you go.
If you’re stepping in front of the camera, make sure you’re camera-ready. Choose an outfit that’s polished yet simple. Anything too distracting takes the focus away from the product. Let the star of the show shine!
2. Filming
iPhone Settings for Filming:
- Set to 4K resolution for crisp, high-quality visuals.
- Use 60 fps for daytime shoots and 30 fps for nighttime to optimize lighting and clarity.
- Experiment with different exposure levels for the best results and use AF Lock to maintain focus.
- Enhance your filming experience by screen-sharing with a MacBook or Apple Watch for a larger preview of your shots.
Filming Tactics
Eva suggests dedicating specific blocks of time solely to filming, ideally during times with the best lighting in your space.
Instead of preparing a detailed shot list, Eva prefers to let creativity flow and comes up with shots spontaneously during the shoot.
She keeps the camera rolling while switching angles or backgrounds, ensuring she doesn’t miss out on unexpected creative moments.
Choosing Audio
Eva usually selects the audio for her video after filming is complete. She maintains a folder of trending sounds saved on Instagram to make her selection easier. Her pro tip: Watch for sounds with the upward arrow symbol on Instagram—these indicate trending audios.
3. Editing
Editing Apps & Techniques
Eva exclusively edits her videos using CapCut. Her typical workflow includes importing recorded clips, muting the original audio, adding extracted audio from a trending sound, fine-tuning color and lighting as needed, arranging and cropping clips, incorporating text if necessary, applying transitions, and thoroughly reviewing the final video.
For any out-of-focus clips, Eva suggests using the iPhone’s editing tools to sharpen them instead of re-filming. When additional filters are required, she turns to Tezza for a finishing touch.
